In fact, 11 or Jesus’ 39 parables deal with finances and money directly, so as his disciples we must be wise in this area of our lives.

The key questions that come up in these parables are similar. Are we storing up for ourselves treasures on earth or investing in treasures that are eternal? Are we aware that we are accountable to God with how we use the things we have? Remember, this journey we are embarking on as a church leads us into more and more freedom!

This Sunday we will conclude the Community chapter of our Rediscovering the Church study. This passage captures what we studied last week and what we will dive into this Sunday. What does it mean for us to overcome the evil one by the power of our testimony? Do we love Jesus more than our very lives?

As we have look at the church’s call to be on mission with God, we can’t forget the church is also called to be in communion or covenant with God and one another. Most of us are even more comfortable with one over the other, but what would it look like if we were radically committed to covenant community and kingdom mission with God?

What would it look like if the whole church was release as “communities on mission”? The New Testament gives us a clear model of what this can and should look like. Quite frankly, it’s really amazing. And it changes everything, but it is up to you to embrace what is possible.

That’s a big promise. Seemingly too good to be true. But perhaps this promise isn’t too good to be true…perhaps it’s so good it’s got to be true! After all, if God sent His only Son to die for us, will He not also freely give us all things? Doesn’t God want to bless us? Because we have a God who is for us, who desires to match our dreams with His, what’s stopping us from dreaming big, stepping out in faith, and attempting great things for the Kingdom? It’s time to go big of go home…or I should say go big and go home, to Heaven. And we are going home soon. We don’t have any time to waste. We’re not getting any younger. So this is our time to expect great things from God, and attempt great things for God. If not now, when?

This week we study Jesus’ extraordinary encounter with his dead friend Lazarus, in which Jesus resurrects his life from the grave with a word. Lazarus became a sign of the Kingdom of God. But how could we possibly find a modern day example of such magnitude? As we search, we begin to find stories in our city that point to the same power of resurrection still being demonstrated by Jesus to those who believe. What would it look like for our city to begin reflecting “the city which is to come” (Heb. 13:14) as Jesus resurrection power is poured into Atlanta?

Breathe in – do you feel that air moving past your lips, down your throat, filling your lungs? Without that breath, our brain begins to die within three minutes. When was the last time you used that exhaling, life-giving breath to just say “Thanks”? “Thanks for breath, the last one and the next one.” If it’s been a while, do it with that next breath.

One of those gifts is being a father; the flip-side of that gift is having a father. The heart of that truth is the teaching of Jesus to His followers, which pointed us to this amazing attribute of our Heavenly Father: “Ask, and it will be given, if you know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
