Chris Moerman :: Tending the Sheep and Strumming the Harp :: 12.04.11

We often find ourselves asking the question why God would choose to grant Spiritual authority to one person or another? What is it that makes them so special that they would be used? Using the story of David and Saul as our guide this week, we will be exploring some of the keys to true, Biblical Authority. We will look at how Kingdom Authority differs from worldly authority, and how God will use the battles and lessons of today to make us for authority in the future.

Matt Reynolds :: Owner or Steward? :: 10.30.11

Do you consider yourself an owner or a steward of what God has graciously given you? As we’ve studied the last two Sundays, Jesus tells us the way we handle our money and possessions says a lot about what we actually believe about the Kingdom of God. In fact, 11 or Jesus’ 39 parables deal with finances and money directly, so as his disciples we must be wise in this area of our lives.

The key questions that come up in these parables are similar. Are we storing up for ourselves treasures on earth or investing in treasures that are eternal? Are we aware that we are accountable to God with how we use the things we have? Remember, this journey we are embarking on as a church leads us into more and more freedom!

Matt Reynolds :: The Power of a Testimony :: 10.09.11

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. This Sunday we will conclude the Community chapter of our Rediscovering the Church study. This passage captures what we studied last week and what we will dive into this Sunday. What does it mean for us to overcome the evil one by the power of our testimony? Do we love Jesus more than our very lives?

Matt Reynolds :: Communities on Mission :: 09.18.11

We are rediscovering the biblical church, primarily in the book of Acts. As we have look at the church’s call to be on mission with God, we can’t forget the church is also called to be in communion or covenant with God and one another. Most of us are even more comfortable with one over the other, but what would it look like if we were radically committed to covenant community and kingdom mission with God?

What would it look like if the whole church was release as “communities on mission”? The New Testament gives us a clear model of what this can and should look like. Quite frankly, it’s really amazing. And it changes everything, but it is up to you to embrace what is possible.

Matt Reynolds :: The Constitution of The Kingdom :: 08.14.11

Sunday we’ll conclude our summer series on the Kingdom of God looking at Jesus’ famous sermon on the mount in Matthew 5-7. Was Jesus trying to give us a new law or reveal a completely different way to live? How can we know for sure what Jesus was trying to communicate in this sermon?

Chris Moerman :: Being & Doing Pt. 2 :: 08.07.11

How do we live in the tension? God has called us to partner with Him in the restoration of the Earth, but even greater than that, He has offered to us a covenant invitation that we would be His children and He would be our God.

Ben Courson :: Great Things :: 06.19.11

Psalm 37:4 teaches that if we delight ourselves in God, He will give us the desires of our hearts. That’s a big promise. Seemingly too good to be true. But perhaps this promise isn’t too good to be true…perhaps it’s so good it’s got to be true! After all, if God sent His only Son to die for us, will He not also freely give us all things? Doesn’t God want to bless us? Because we have a God who is for us, who desires to match our dreams with His, what’s stopping us from dreaming big, stepping out in faith, and attempting great things for the Kingdom? It’s time to go big of go home…or I should say go big and go home, to Heaven. And we are going home soon. We don’t have any time to waste. We’re not getting any younger. So this is our time to expect great things from God, and attempt great things for God. If not now, when?

Matt Reynolds :: John 11 :: 03.20.11

In our journey through John we have been looking at ancient encounters Jesus had with people, but also looking for modern day equivalents. This week we study Jesus’ extraordinary encounter with his dead friend Lazarus, in which Jesus resurrects his life from the grave with a word. Lazarus became a sign of the Kingdom of God. But how could we possibly find a modern day example of such magnitude? As we search, we begin to find stories in our city that point to the same power of resurrection still being demonstrated by Jesus to those who believe. What would it look like for our city to begin reflecting “the city which is to come” (Heb. 13:14) as Jesus resurrection power is poured into Atlanta?

Chris Moerman :: John 10 :: 03.13.11

In John 10, Jesus tell us that as the shepherd he will lead us, his sheep, into true life, abundant life. What does this mean? In a world that is so full of earthly abundance and wealth, what does it mean that Jesus has come so that we might have ‘life, and have it more abundantly’? The core message of Jesus teaching was the coming of the Kingdom of God, and in this teaching he reveals to us fully the kind of life he has in store for us. As a church lets dive deep into discovering this abundant life, as it opens up for us, our families and our city.

Chris Moerman :: A Common Destiny For All :: 11.07.10

The rain falls on the righteous and the unrighteous, bad things happen to good people and bad people alike. Should this universal truth change the way we live? Perhaps, if good or bad can occur regardless of how we live, just like Solomon our own enjoyment should be our number one goal…..or maybe, just maybe, Solomon had missed the point?

Breathe in – do you feel that air moving past your lips, down your throat, filling your lungs? Without that breath, our brain begins to die within three minutes. When was the last time you used that exhaling, life-giving breath to just say “Thanks”? “Thanks for breath, the last one and the next one.” If it’s been a while, do it with that next breath.

One of those gifts is being a father; the flip-side of that gift is having a father. The heart of that truth is the teaching of Jesus to His followers, which pointed us to this amazing attribute of our Heavenly Father: “Ask, and it will be given, if you know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Gospel of Luke(Evening Message) In Luke 10, Jesus sends out 72 disciples, two-by-two, to various cities he would later visit.
