Matt Reynolds :: Encounters with Jesus | A series in the Gospel of John | Covenant Restored :: 05.15.11

This Sunday will conclude our study in the book of John: “Encounters with Jesus.” The way John chooses to end his gospel should not surprise us, but rather affirm within our hearts what this “Apostle of Love” has been trying to communicate about Jesus throughout. Have we discovered what is in Jesus’ heart for His people? Read John 21 and see if you recognize the offer Jesus is making Peter in your own life with God. Do you know what it means to be in covenant with Jesus?

What would you do if you knew you only had one more week to live?
How would you spend those last moments of your life?

It all started with a trip to visit his friends in Bethany, where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. (John 12)

Matt Reynolds :: Encounters with Jesus: A series in the Gospel of John :: 01.09.11

Sometimes when we read the Bible it can feel like an old history book that seems far removed from our modern lives. We start to see the Gospel stories as just that, simply stories. But when we take a longer look at the Gospel of John, we see real people interacting with a real Jesus. Regardless of what kind of life these people were living before they met Jesus, each person is radically changed once they encounter Jesus for themselves.

This week in John chapter 1 we will see the first people who encountered Jesus and decided to leave what they knew to become fishers of men.

How many Christ followers want to have a great impact, yet can not seem to get past themselves? How many have huge dreams of changing the world, but are trapped in the prison of their own pride or insecurity?  Last week, Matt opened up a study on the book of Ephesians, exploring how we are to live in our true, God-given identities. This Sunday, I’m excited to build off last week’s teaching, as we consider how to live a life full of “identity encounters.”  Being sure of our identity in Christ is so central to living a fruitful Kingdom life that we are going to spend this week continuing to explore that question: “Who am I?” Hearing God’s answer to this question brings the power we need to overcome the obstacles in the way of the great impact God has called us to have.
