Chris Moerman :: Tending the Sheep and Strumming the Harp :: 12.04.11

We often find ourselves asking the question why God would choose to grant Spiritual authority to one person or another? What is it that makes them so special that they would be used? Using the story of David and Saul as our guide this week, we will be exploring some of the keys to true, Biblical Authority. We will look at how Kingdom Authority differs from worldly authority, and how God will use the battles and lessons of today to make us for authority in the future.

Drew McClure :: The Authority of Jesus :: 11.27.11

Last week, we took a broad look at spiritual authority as we see it taught and exemplified in the Bible. This week, we are going to be taking a closer look at authority by studying it in the life of Jesus. More specifically, we will look at the posture, position, and purpose of Jesus authority and subsequently, our authority in Christ Jesus now. The Church was once known for it’s authority and power but has recently looked more like victims than victors. Let’s rediscover our authority in Christ Jesus!

Matt Reynolds :: Spiritual Authority :: 11.20.11

Last Sunday, was a historic moment for Grace-Midtown as we celebrated and worshipped our Lord through our financial sacrifices for the Northside property. As a sign of commitment and to build a community memorial of this moment, individuals and families wrote on 100-year-old Atlanta bricks their prayers and hope for the restoration of our city in Jesus’ name. This was one of the most powerful acts of worship we have ever seen in our sanctuary!

This week, we will continue in our Rediscovering the Church study with the first teaching in the Authority chapter. We’ll as the question, “What is spiritual authority?” and look at how the answer works itself out throughout the Scriptures.

Matt Reynolds :: Celebration :: 11.13.11

As a community we have reached the point of decision. We have prayed and sought the Lord about what it means for each of us, individually, to consecrate ourselves and offer our financial gifts, sacrificially, to the Lord.

This Sunday, we come together as one body, united by one faith in the plans Jesus has for us, we come to celebrate. We want to say as David and the community of Israel said before they built the Temple. “Who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”

Buddy Hoffman :: Can One Church Change the World :: 11.06.11

It is not only possible, it happened! It happened in a place named Antioch. Every church on every street corner in the world, every missionary, every Bible translation, every short term mission team, every organized relief work done in the name of Christ roots run back to a church at Antioch.

Why Antioch? Is there anything we can learn from Antioch? Some say the church is irrelevant, and sadly some are islands of irrelevance amidst seas of despair. Not only do they not dream of impacting the world, they wonder if they will survive. Dare we dream that God could use us to change our neighborhoods, schools, cities and cultures, maybe even the world?

Matt Reynolds :: Owner or Steward? :: 10.30.11

Do you consider yourself an owner or a steward of what God has graciously given you? As we’ve studied the last two Sundays, Jesus tells us the way we handle our money and possessions says a lot about what we actually believe about the Kingdom of God. In fact, 11 or Jesus’ 39 parables deal with finances and money directly, so as his disciples we must be wise in this area of our lives.

The key questions that come up in these parables are similar. Are we storing up for ourselves treasures on earth or investing in treasures that are eternal? Are we aware that we are accountable to God with how we use the things we have? Remember, this journey we are embarking on as a church leads us into more and more freedom!

Chris Moerman :: Vision and Sacrifice :: 10.23.11

There are certain times throughout the Bible where the people of God are called to unify around a common purpose and vision to see something far greater than the sun of their parts occur. As a Church, we stand on the edge of just such a moment. What does it mean for us, as a Body, to partner with God in the vision He is calling u into– to discover joy in our sacrifice and for us to steward wisely the resources he has entrusted to us?

Matt Reynolds :: The Power of Money :: 10.16.11

Money has power. It can make you feel powerful or powerless. It will serve you, or you will serve it. Jesus went so far to say, you have to make a choice where your loyalties lie — with God or with money. Repeatedly, Jesus warned his disciples to “beware” of the affect their money and possessions could have on their lives. This Sunday, we will start the Giving chapter of our series, Rediscovering the Church. Personally, I believe this part of the series will be really significant because becoming a disciple in the area of our money and possessions is rarely talked about.

Matt Reynolds :: The Power of a Testimony :: 10.09.11

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. This Sunday we will conclude the Community chapter of our Rediscovering the Church study. This passage captures what we studied last week and what we will dive into this Sunday. What does it mean for us to overcome the evil one by the power of our testimony? Do we love Jesus more than our very lives?

Matt Reynolds :: Mission ATL :: 09.25.11

What it would be like if we were a people who sought to serve the city, not just use the city? Can we learn to spend our lives,to give our lives away for the sake of another? As a community on mission, we’ve seen incredible transformation, but all we’ve seen is really only the beginning.

Matt Reynolds :: Communities on Mission :: 09.18.11

We are rediscovering the biblical church, primarily in the book of Acts. As we have look at the church’s call to be on mission with God, we can’t forget the church is also called to be in communion or covenant with God and one another. Most of us are even more comfortable with one over the other, but what would it look like if we were radically committed to covenant community and kingdom mission with God?

What would it look like if the whole church was release as “communities on mission”? The New Testament gives us a clear model of what this can and should look like. Quite frankly, it’s really amazing. And it changes everything, but it is up to you to embrace what is possible.

Matt Reynolds :: Ministry of Reconciliation :: 09.11.11

Join us Sunday, for the continuation of our series, Rediscovering the Church, as we remember the events of September 11th, 2001. What is the church called to in the face of brokenness, tragedy, and pain? 2 Corinthians begins to tell us the answer.

Chris Moerman :: The Early Church Movement :: 09.04.11

“The Missio-Dei, is the mission of God, but more than that it is ‘the missional God’, mission comes from the heart of God, it’s part of His very nature and His plan, and nothing will stand against it! Last week we looked at the global state of God’s church, this week we’ll be exploring the movement of God’s church throughout history, how we are seeing Jesus’ prophecy that the ‘gates of Hell would not overcome it’ actually happening. We’ll also be looking at our role in that, and what God has entrusted too us.”

Matt Reynolds :: The New Face of Christianity :: 08.28.11

Last week we looked at the passage where Jesus said, He will build His Church on the Rock and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. But what does His Church look like today? What kinds of people make up the Church worldwide? Most people consider Christianity to be a white or European, Western religion. After looking at the statistics and seeing who the typical Christ-follower of our day really is, the reality might surprise you. (It’s definitely surprised me!) This Sunday we will explore in our series “Rediscovering the Church”, what the Missio Dei has to do with every nation and every people group on the planet.

Matt Reynolds :: On This Rock I will Build My Church :: 08.21.11

Seriously, when Jesus thinks about the Church what comes to His mind? Buildings, organizational structures, a list of doctrines; a group or club everyone should join? What did Jesus mean when He tells Peter in Matthew 16:18 that he will build His church? How can we make sure we are building the same things Jesus wants built concerning the church? I know, these are huge questions that we need real, biblical answers for. That’s why we are starting a new series Sunday called, “Rediscovering the Church.”

Matt Reynolds :: The Constitution of The Kingdom :: 08.14.11

Sunday we’ll conclude our summer series on the Kingdom of God looking at Jesus’ famous sermon on the mount in Matthew 5-7. Was Jesus trying to give us a new law or reveal a completely different way to live? How can we know for sure what Jesus was trying to communicate in this sermon?

Chris Moerman :: Being & Doing Pt. 2 :: 08.07.11

How do we live in the tension? God has called us to partner with Him in the restoration of the Earth, but even greater than that, He has offered to us a covenant invitation that we would be His children and He would be our God.

Chris Moerman :: Being & Doing :: 07.31.11

Throughout the Bible we consistently encounter these two things again and again; being and doing, invitation and challenge, covenant and Kingdom. How do we live in the tension of these two? Knowing that God has called us to partner with Him in the restoration of the earth, but even greater than that He has offered to us a Covenant invitation that we would be His children and He would be our God. We’ll be exploring these two themes; Being and Doing.

Matt Reynolds :: Rebuilding The City :: 07.24.11

What does it mean to bring the Kingdom of God to this city?

How do we rebuild the city that God has called us to?

Matt Reynolds :: United In The Spirit :: 06.26.11

Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their (at)meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:43-46
